In my previous blog, I ended with
My goal as a TRAINER or a COACH is to become 'PROGRESSIVELY UNNECESSARY'
Teaching Fishing
A very common saying is 'When you see a hungry person, do not give him fish, teach him how to fish instead'. This is one of my guiding principles in training and coaching. In the case of a hungry person, providing food is a temporay relief and will only make the person more dependent on the provider. Using hunger as a motivation, one can easily help a hungry person learn HOW TO ACQUIRE food for himself making you, the provider, 'progressively unnecessary'.
Always Being the Boss
The second principle that guides me is another, not too common, saying which goes 'The person who knows how will always have work but the person who knows why will always be the boss'. In many cases, there are there is no 'one correct' way to get something done. Training a person a way of doing something, without bothering to explain why it is done in that way will significantly limit the person's ability to get things done. Providing the learner fundamental principles allow deeper insights which enable a more informed decision-making process to get things done.
Ability to Giveaway
This final principle not only guides but drives me to train and coach. It is the root of my passion. In middle-eastern cultures, 'A man is measured not by the wealth he possesses but by his ability to give-away and share the wealth in his possession', the same be said about knowledge. It is only through the process of giving-away and sharing knowledge that learning can happen. The knowledge possessed by trainer or coach can only begin having value when it given-away and shared.

Sharing knowledge is a way to being progressively unnecessary....
